A Winnetka man filed a lawsuit against the Village of Winnetka Feb. 13 claiming the stormwater utility fee charged to residents is “improper.”

The lawsuit filed at the Circuit Court of Cook County became the first filed case against the $42 million stormwater project’s utility fee. The fee rolled out last May is paid by residents, business owners and institutional property owners. The money paid will eventually repay $34.5 million in bond issuance. The rest of the project is funded by Village reserves.
