Longtime Winnetka resident Millie De Croocq died April 22 surrounded by her husband, daughters, and son-in-law. Born in 1936 and raised on Chicago’s Northside, her bubbly spirit helped end the Great Depression. De Croocq worked for the Schwinn Bicycle Co. as executive secretary for the son of the chairman. Although more than qualified to work for the senior Schwinn, women were not considered for that position. In June 1958, she married Joseph De Croocq. Living in Winnetka for over 50 years, she enjoyed the beaches, golf, painting the lagoons, and volunteering.
