The BackYard Nature Center and the Forest Preserves of Cook County offered an afternoon of service, learning and fun on April 28 at Erickson Woods in Winnetka to celebrate Earth Day.

Young kids learned to fish, picked up trash and had fun in the nature play area, while those 14 participated in restoration and removal of invasive buckthorn. Everyone also learned more about the native wildlife using binoculars at the birding station, examining a deer skeleton, and going on a nature hike with a trained naturalist.
